Have You Ever Lost Your Temper?

Just want to encourage you on your journey today. Have you ever lost your temper?  Have you said or done something in the heat of the moment that you really regretted later?  If you have, then welcome to being real.   My Grandma told me this story about a little boy who had a bad temper (I think she was talking about me).  This is how the story goes. His father had had enough of his bad behavior and gave the boy a bag of nails and a hammer.  His father told him that every time he lost his temper, he had to hammer a 3 inch nail into the hardwood fence!  The first day, the boy hammered 36 nails into the fence.  Over the next few weeks the boy learned to control his anger and his temper.  Day by day, the boy hammered less and less nails into the fence.  He was learning that it was easier to control his anger and hold his temper, than to drive those 3 inch nails into the hardwood fence. Then the day came that the boy didn’t lose his temper at all, he was so excited he told his father!  His father took him to the fence and said “You’ve done well my boy, but there’s more to learn; I want you to take every nail out of the fence that you have hammered in.”  The days went by and one by one the boy removed all the nails and then showed his father.  His father told him to look at the holes in the fence and the hammer marks in the timber from his rage.  He looked his boy in the eye and said “This fence will never be the same; when you say or do things in anger, they leave a scar just like the scars on this fence.  It won’t matter how many times you say sorry the wound will still be there, I love you my boy but make sure you have learned to control your anger instead of letting your anger control you.

Peaceful people are powerful people.  Maybe that’s what Jesus was on about when he said,
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

God bless you heaps  Pastor Nigel
