IF only

How are you coping with life? Does it feel like you are wrestling a giant? Is life something to be grappled with or is life something to be embraced? You can’t fight with someone if you’re hugging them.

  • If you had all the money you wanted …
  • If you had everything you wanted …
  • If all your dreams came true …
  • If all my relationships were wonderful …
  • If everyone in your life did what you wanted them to do ….
  • If all your ducks were lined up in a row, would you be happy?

If you’re like me, you’ve fallen into the trap of believing that happiness is a destination. If only I could achieve that, or if only I had money or if only I had less pressure and stress in my life. If I didn’t have this pain or sickness in my body, if everyone and everything in my life was perfect, then I can be happy!

My Grandma caught me using the word “if” a lot and I’ll never forget what she said,

“Nigel! If is the biggest word in the dictionary, and it has the least power.”

In 1970, Lyn Anderson released the song I never promised you a rose garden (Google it).

This song flew up the charts and won a Grammy award.  In this song Lyn sings three key phrases;

  1. Along with the sunshine, there’s gotta be a little rain sometime
  2. When you take you’ve gotta give, so live and let live
  3. I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden

Yes it’s true, life is not a rose garden.  Life can deal you some pretty hard blows, but you’ve just gotta keep getting back up! The boxer who gets back up is the one who wins the fight.

Jesus says it best in John 16:33;

These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world!

Don’t wait too long before you give your self permission to be happy regardless of whatever is happening in your life. Life is short. Life is precious. Life with Jesus is abundant! Why settle for less? Choose to do life with Jesus today. Simply ask him into your life and see what he will do.

 God bless you heaps
