Like Sands Through the Hourglass

Thank you everyone for encouraging me to keep going with Friday’s Faith Messages. Sometimes the encourager needs a little encouragement. We are a group of 98 people now and God is wanting to crack the 100 mark! Who can you add to the encouragement revolution? While I would never admit to watching the TV show “Days of our livesthere is something interesting in the intro. It says “Like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives. This TV show was filled with suspense and intrigue and twists and turns, love and laughter, joy and sadness, failure and success, pain and pleasure, passion and poison, betrayal and reconciliation, breakdowns and breakthrough. Sounds a lot like life doesn’t it. The producers tried to capture one or two days in an episode so each episode had one or two grains of sand go through the hour glass!

Truth is friends, your hourglass was flipped over when you were born and the grains of sand began to flow. How many grains of sand have passed through your hourglass so far? How many grains of sand do you have left and what are you going to do with the grains of sand you have left? That great word of wisdom in the Holy Bible instructs us this way in Psalm 90 verse 12 …
So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom
Another translation says it this way …
Teach us to realise the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom
God is …
  • The giver of wisdom
  • The giver of life
  • The lover of your soul
  • The creator of the universe
  • The one who made you in your mother’s womb
  • God is the one who gives you the hourglass of time here on this earth
  • God is the one who flips your hourglass over and the sands start to flow
  • God gives you free will to do whatever you want with your sands of time
So what are you doing with your grains of sand?
  • Are you enjoying life?
  • Are you being kind?
  • Have you forgiven everyone of everything?
  • Are you part of a church where you can feel the presence of God and the people are real?
  • Are you loving those around you, whether they deserve it or not?
  • Are you helping instead of hindering?
  • Are you keeping your words sweet because you never know when you’ll have to eat them?
  • Are you being gentle?
  • Are you being patient?
  • Are you hopeful?
  • Are you burning bridges or are you building bridges?
  • Are you being faithful?
  • Is your faith strong and growing?
You see friends, what’s in the heart comes out of the mouth. God is the only one who can change our hearts. Why not surrender to him today and give your heart and your life and your hourglass to him. Choose to spend each grain of sand serving God, living for God! For all those who give their lives to God, He will give eternal life! And when all the grains of sand in your hour glass run through God will smash the hourglass because you have eternal life with him in heaven!  Just imagine what Australia would look like if everyone decided to believe in God and follow Jesus and live by the principles in the Bible and go to church!  Now that sounds like an hourglass filled with hope and with a purpose.
God bless you heaps
