The Last Parachute

Have you ever been around someone who thinks they’re something special?  Someone who thinks they’re smarter than everyone else?  This story is told of someone who thinks they are the smartest person in the world.  A doctor, a lawyer, a pastor and a little boy were on a flight in a small plane.  Suddenly the plane developed engine trouble and the pilot tried everything but he gave up and put on his parachute said goodbye to the four guys and jumped out the window.  There were only 3 parachutes left, so the doctor grabbed one and said “I’m a doctor, I’m better than everyone else and I save lives so I must live” and he jumped out.  The lawyer said, “I’m a lawyer and lawyers are the smartest people in the world, I deserve to live.”  He grabbed a parachute and he jumped out.  The pastor looked at the little boy and said “Son, I’ve had a long and full life, you are young and you have your whole life in front of you.  Here, you take the last parachute.”  The little boy handed the parachute back to the pastor and said “It’s ok pastor, the smartest man in the world just jumped out of the plane with my back pack.”
Can I Just encourage today.  Life isn’t about being the smartest or the richest or the most important person.  But life is about being faithful to God, nurturing your relationship with God and trusting God with everything.  Truth is, life is about being gentle and kind and patient and loving and honest and generous to the people around you.  My grandma used to say, “The rewards of self service are few and feeble but the rewards of living and serving others are many and are powerful.”  Jesus said it best in Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.

Is there someone in your life who needs a parachute today?  Go and give them your parachute and watch what God will do for you. God bless you heaps  Pasor Nigel
